The ‘ASOM MALA’ project has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday 7th February 2021 PM Modi launches ‘Asom Mala’ programme in Assam’s Sonitpur to boost road infrastructure and contribute to the state’s economic progress and improve connectivity.
Details
- The project is aimed at improving the connectivity in the state and is worth Rs 8,210 crore.
- It is aimed at the development of the highways of the state and major roads in various districts across the state.
- The ‘ASOM MALA’ project is being undertaken as part of the ‘Bharat Mala’ project.

About ‘Bharat Mala’ project:
- The ‘Bharat Mala’ project was launched in 2015 under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and is a completely centrally sponsored scheme.
- The project will build highways from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and then cover the entire string of Himalayan states – Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand – and then portions of borders of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar alongside Terai, and move to West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and right up to the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and Mizoram.
